We started the day early at 6:15am to give us time to do the final packing, check the weight of the bags (20kg limit each on the plane), have some breakfast and check out of the hotel. A quick look out the window confirmed that it was going to be a clear and warm day, perfect.

It’s our second morning on the train and we awake to another beautiful day in South Africa. This morning we are not up quite so early, and it’s already past sunrise and there is a wonderful golden glow to the countryside passing by our windows.

Riding the Rails

It's our first day on the rails in the African bush and the houses in the villages that line the railroad tracks are literally a stones throw away. In the early morning sun a number of the villagers are out in the early morning sun watching us pass by.
