I feel like I’m the last to know that Freepik acquired Magnific back on May 7th, 2024! I came across a video on YouTube today comparing the Freepik AI Image Generator and the upscale feature using Magnific against Midjourney.
I just had to jump in and have a go, here’s a before after. The first image is generated from a prompt, “ and the second image is after AI Retouch to add the monk and a bit of Photoshop for the clouds etc.

I must have signed up to Freepik a number of years ago because when I went to Sign Up, it told me there was already a user profile created. So, after resetting the password, I logged into the AI Image Generator.
My first impressions were very positive. It has a simple feature selection, and it generates images at breakneck speed. Check out the link above to the video for more information on the process.

So here is a before and after slider of an image created in Freepik AI image generator.
The prompt was, “An overgrown stone path leads to an ancient Buddhist temple in the jungle. In the distance are high mountains, and the air is misty with rain falling.”
This was my pick from over 20 images generated.
Then, I used the retouch function, selected the stairs and entrance, and added a new prompt: " Old monk in an orange robe walking up the stairs.”
This generated several versions, and I selected the best one. I then upscaled the image 2X to create this version that I took into Adobe Photoshop Beta for a little tweaking.
