The stone waterfront in front of the Vista Mare Beach Bar in the small village of Pomena on the island of Mjet, Croatia, affords a beautiful view of the surrounding hills, the town and the Ponant Le Lyrial cruise ship, anchored just offshore.
Nowadays, Pomena has its hotel, a couple of restaurants and coffee bars, souvenir shops, agencies, etc. Pomena, as a bay, is a very safe place for anchorage, being sheltered by the tiny island of Pomestak, which acts as a local naturist beach.
Pomena is a convenient disembarkation point for visitors who want to visit and swim in the beautiful saltwater lake Malo Jezero (small lake) of Mjet National Park, located only 15 15-minute walk away.
Mljet National Park is large area that borders two salt water lakes - Veliko and Malo Jezero (Large and Small Lake). The Lakes stretch for about 4 kilometres. Right in the middle of the Large Lake there is a small island / islet Melita (Sveta Marija) with large building of former Benedictine monastery, erected there in 12th century (see photo above). The monastery’s building is now café/restaurant. The small island is connected by boats that sail there from both sides of the Lake.
