Adrian Wilson has just realeased this amazing document detailing the history of the ground breaking Quantel Paint Box and how a handful of hardware and software engineers made a digital version of an artist’s studio. Remarkably it wasn’t famous geeks in Silicon Valley rather a small group of modest boffins in Britain.
Meeting the Paint Box, and Martin Holbrook, the first Paint Box artist, in 1983 forever changed the course of my life and I ended up working with Quantel and eventually establishing the first Graphic Paint Box company, Electric Paint, in Los Angeles in the late 80’s.

This is a picture taken at the Quantel factory in Newbury (I think around 1985) working on the Paint Box with “Chips” a Blue-and-Yellow Macaw who was the company’s mascot.
